Yet chiropractic itself is far from new. Spinal manipulation has been practised in cultures around the world for thousands of years. What makes today’s chiropractors different is the refinement and precision of their skills. “These techniques have evolved over centu ries,” Dr Kelly says, “but in the hands of a trained chiropractor, they are safe, precise, and effective.”
For Dr Kelly, accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective care. Even with more than 30 years of experience, he still carries out the same detailed examination for every new patient. “Even after all these years, I never cut corners,” he says. “A thorough assessment is essential, no matter how minor the problem seems.”
Patients are often surprised to learn that this initial consultation and examination costs no more than a standard treatment session. But Dr Kelly views it as essential. “It reassures people that they’re in safe hands. And sometimes, the examination reveals problems that aren’t chiropractic at all.”
In those cases, patients are referred promptly to their GP or hospital. “It doesn’t happen often, but it’s important to recognise when someone needs medical rather than chiropractic care,” he explains.
“Back pain can sometimes be a symptom of other conditions, and spotting that early is crucial.”
