After a record-breaking year filled with renowned productions including Hamilton and Disney’s Mary Poppins, Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) is looking ahead to an even bigger 2026 as it continues to bring the very best of the West End and Broadway to the region.
As the UK’s largest and best attended regional theatre, TRP welcomed 373,133 audience members last year across more than 650 performances. Setting the stage for an extraordinary 2026 was the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical, followed by a spectacular new production of Miss Saigon. Upcoming titles include global smash hits Legally Blonde The Musical, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Cats and Mrs Doubtfire.
This summer, TRP strengthens its position as a leading producing house as it presents its own bold new production of FAME. Thirty years after its European premiere at TRP, the theatre is reimagining the musical for the 21st century, including songs from the iconic 1980’s movie.
Beyond its stages, TRP, which is a charity, delivers one of the UK’s most comprehensive community and artist development programmes. Its Young Company nurtures emerging talent and opens pathways into creative careers; Our Space offers meaningful creative engagement for vulnerable adults, supporting confidence, wellbeing and recovery; and its Artist Development network connects and champions theatre‑makers across Plymouth and the South West. TRP is also home to an award-winning Production and Learning Centre, TR2. Based in Cattedown, TR2, houses vast workshop and wardrobe departments and combines internationally regarded scenic design and costume production alongside state-of-the-art rehearsal studios.
Theatre is more than entertainment, it’s a catalyst for creativity, community and cultural identity. TRP is proud to live in a digital world and to play a vital role in ensuring world‑class theatre is accessible, inspiring and impactful for people across the region.
