A major investment of £5.9 million has been transforming Ivybridge Leisure Centre over the last 9 months, during the first phase of a massive improvement project. This has included creating a top-of-the-range gym, purpose-built studio, café and several other exciting new facilities. Already proving a hit with existing members, the local community is being invited to snap up a free day pass to try out the new facilities for themselves.
The investment has been breathing new life into Ivybridge’s much-loved leisure centre, led by Fusion Lifestyle, the UK’s leading sports and leisure charity. One of the most exciting additions is the creation of the new gym, which includes all the latest functional and cardio kit – including Power Plate, Octane and Keiser machines – as well as a brand-new INTENCITY HIIT zone with MyZone training technology system.
As a result of the first stage of improvement works, Ivybridge Leisure Centre now boasts a wide variety of ways for the whole community to get active, with a packed timetable of over 60 exercise classes per week that reflect contemporary fitness trends. For those looking to socialise as well as keeping fit, the new café provides the perfect spot for meeting with friends before or after a workout – with a range of delicious dishes and drinks on offer. The centre also now benefits from a rearranged wet change and reception area.
The new facilities represent just part of a longer-term project and large-scale investment being made to the leisure centre, with phase two set to kick off later this year. The plans include a new 25-metre open-sky swimming pool, complete with a state-of-the-art retractable roof, a revamped sports hall and squash courts, and a brand-new health suite featuring a sauna and steam room – as well as a set of new changing rooms for an improved all-round visitor experience.
The works at Ivybridge form part of a multi-million-pound investment to improve six Devon leisure centres, undertaken by Fusion Lifestyle, South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council. Along with Ivybridge Leisure Centre, and as part of a three year-programme, other locations benefitting from investment include; Meadowlands Leisure Centre (Tavistock), Quayside Leisure Centre (Kingsbridge), Parklands (Okehampton), Totnes Pavilion and Dartmouth Leisure Centre.
David Ling, Business Manager at Fusion Lifestyle said:
“The completion of the first stage of work at Ivybridge Leisure Centre is a major milestone, which will significantly enhance the experience for our customers and those in the local area. We are committed to nurturing and maintaining local sports and leisure facilities, which includes making a serious investment in their improvement and long-term upkeep. There are more exciting developments in the pipeline and the second phase of work will be even more impressive – we are thrilled to bring such extensive improvements to the town.”
Cllr Hilary Bastone, Executive Member for Customer First at South Hams District Council, said: “I’m delighted to see the completion of these works at Ivybridge, the first stage in a vast programme of refurbishments. The new studio and gym look fantastic, with a great range of equipment and classes to suit every fitness level. I’m looking forward to seeing the new pool and the improvements to the other facilities soon.”
Emma Denham, Deputy General Manager at Ivybridge Leisure Centre, added: “It has been really exciting to see the public response to the first round of improvement works made to the centre, and the new equipment we have had installed has exceeded all our expectations. It is really exciting and rewarding to see so many people in the community enjoying what we have created so far – and that is only set to continue. We would like to say a special thank you to all of our existing members for their patience and understanding through the development process – we can assure them it will be worth the wait!”
