This month we have been talking to Adam and Kerri who started an oven cleaning business called Oven Wizards Plymouth at the height of the pandemic. They have been trading for one year and have impressed so many new customers with their customer care and diligence – the business now goes from strength to strength.

Adam has a specialist van with a special cleaning tank and equipment that will, with some effort, get ovens, hobs, Ranges, AGAs, microwaves and extractors back to nearly new – using totally ecologically friendly, nontoxic, products which have no smell and saving good, but dirty, appliances from recycling. They also tally up the number of miles they do and convert it to the equivalent number of trees and then plant those trees every year offsetting their carbon footprint. Kerri runs bookings and customer service and this local team pride themselves on customer care and excellent results.

We have all been there, the oven is dirty, even self-clean ovens struggle, and off-the-shelf cleaning products don’t really get a showroom shine – even after a lot of elbow grease. It’s not a fun job and best left to the Wizard. Do something ‘simple well’ says Adam and, although there is a lot more to it – it’s the recipe for happy customers and a successful local business.

Adam will also replace light bulbs and extractor filters and generally help to fix any issues – recommending an equally respected local company: Ace Domestic for the more technical fixes and honest appraisal if your beloved oven is past saving.

So how did it all happen? Adam is a classically trained Head Chef so he knows a thing or two about hygiene and, jokingly, his OCD just won’t let him leave a job half done. Whilst working at a renowned hotel close to London he met and later married Kerri who was the Reception Manager – so she knows how to handle customers with a 5 star care. On starting a family, Chef’s hours just did not work and with the COVID interruption to hospitality it was time to reassess priorities. Moving to Plymouth was such a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively) and the kindness and welcome from all Plymothian’s was not a surprise, but just great to get involved with. Both Adam and Kerri are so excited about Plymouth’s future – Ocean City, Free Port and expansion will not change the character, but will move the City forward, with a buzz in the air. The Cole family love the beaches, fresh air, entertainments, walking the coast paths, getting out on the moors and the opportunity to spend quality time with their children.

The couple have noticed their quality of life has increased massively as they can both come back home at a reasonable hour, to spend time with their kids and read those all important bedtimes stories.

We wanted to know more about the Oven Wizards Plymouth business. Adam has an exclusive territory of Plymouth (PL1 to PL9 and PL21) postcodes, but can operate outside of these if not in another Wizards territory. His colleague, Wizard Martin, currently serves TQ postcodes. Both are happy to pass on enquires to the right person, but the postcode PL/TQ is the key – their web site makes it easy. They are backed by a national network of Wizards and this combined knowledge and support really gives confidence – as there is nothing that someone has not seen before. Their preferred payment is by card however cash is welcomed as this works for some customers.

Adam guarantees no mess in your kitchen with matting to protect your property and all done within just a few hours – whilst you can relax and think of culinary masterpieces to come. Many customers book a repeat for, say, six months, so they always have appliances looking its best.

Adam is fully insured, DBS checked, professionally trained and will treat your home with the utmost respect. There is a key collect service for landlords, letting agents and estate agents. Lots of customers like a clean when they are selling or have just moved into a property and there is always the domestic disaster – especially now Bake Off is back on the telly. Christmas is a busy time – getting the shine before to impress the rellies, ‘chipping out’ the exploded turkey after and starting the New Year with sparkling appliances.

A spotlessly clean oven will always be the end result, no matter how long it takes or how much ‘elbow grease’ Adam needs to use. Adam and Kerri are confident they can clean your oven and offer a complimentary friendly face to talk to and a helping hand.

Often with dirty ovens, the owner reckons it is cheaper and easier just to buy a new one, however, the quality of the clean Oven Wizards Plymouth provides restores an oven to looking brand-new and if that is not possible, Adam will tell you why – there are some dangerous appliances out there (especially gas).

In the future, they would like to grow Oven Wizards Plymouth as a company, put extra vans on the road and have employees of their own, but only when they feel the time is right to do so. However, they want to hire somebody with the same passion for ovens, customer service and eye for detail they have. Currently, they are in a great position with the company and want to be able to carry on supplying the people of Plymouth with clean ovens and a friendly face.
