16 winning females and 3 Calendar Girl staff aged between 20-35yrs made the 2hr journey from Bristol and Cardiff to Plymouth to take part in a local charity Bar Tour sponsored by 10 local Plymouth Bars and Clubs with transport provided by Oakleys Party Limos.
Paul Oakley of Oakley’s Party Limos provided the vessel of transport, a large party bus to whisk the girls from bar to bar across Plymouth throughout the night. The bus was created and converted by Paul and is one of only 3 in the UK.
Paul said “I think it’s a great cause and a great idea, it’s become so well known now that people respond to the brand really well wherever they go, it’s great to be able to do my part and help out again”.
10 bars agreed to participate in the charity event which started at 8pm and finishing around 12.30am.
The girls entered each bar for around 20-30 mins to work their charity charm on local patrons to raise cash for The Chestnut Appeal at Derriford Hospital for Prostate Cancer.
Lesley-Ann Simpson Charity Director at the Chestnut Appeal said: “I can’t thank the amazing Bristol Calendar Girls enough, they came down to Plymouth & managed to raise £1004.20 following their ‘freezing cold’ Plymouth Bar Tour on Saturday night as well as additional online collections.
“Thank you everyone, that was excellent work and you really do make a real difference right here in the region. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and we know that early diagnosis is key. However sometimes detecting the cancer can be tricky, that’s why we are bringing MRi-Fusion to the region. I
t’s a high quality imaging system that gives the surgeon a clear view of the entire prostate gland, the Bristol Calendar Girls with their kindness and dedication are helping the charity achieve our aims, ensuring that we get the best quality imaging equipment available for our men.”
The local sponsored bar line-up included; The Treasury , The Gog and Magog, The Ship , The Navy , The Berkeley Bar, Union Rooms , Walkabout, Revolutions, Popworld and Pryzm.
Myles Lockwood creator and founder of UK Calendar Girls and Calendar Men said “I’m absolutely gobsmacked of how much these girls have managed to raise again this year, over £1000 in under 5 hours is amazing!
To be able to bring the Bristol Calendar Girls to my home town to raise money for such a great cause along with all the support from the local Bars and Sponsors has been such a personal achievement for all of us, I look forward to doing it again next year”.
