The founder of Beacon Electrical, Chris Higgins, never thought he’d be the creator of one of the most successful independent appliance specialists in Devon as well as the owner of his sister company, Beacon Blinds. Prior to this, Chris was working in the Dockyard until he needed a little extra cash to provide for his expanding family. This resulted in working evenings for a window blinds company and helping with electrical wiring work.
Through this insight into the world of domestic electrics, he soon realised that the local area needed somewhere to not only buy electrical equipment but to get help and advice. In 1976, Beacon Electrical was formed from this idea, originally based in North Down Road, Beacon Park but soon moved to Beacon Park Road where its head office is located now. Over the years, Beacon Electrical has expanded and now operated four branches and a successful website.
The Plymstock branch opened in 1984 on Pomphlett Road and has remained a very popular shop within the community and surrounding area.
Beacon Electrical offer a wide range of different electrical products from lighting, heating, vacuums, house wiring, large kitchen appliances and washing machines.
“Plymstock was an expanding community when we opened in the 1980s and still is now. We find that many people prefer to shop locally rather than venture into the city centre. We are here to help with whatever our customers need, even if we have to source and specifically order them.” – Mark Higgins
Beacon Electrical offer a lot of great deals and price matches due to the company being a member of the electrical buying group; Euronics for nearly 30 years. This enables them to buy products at similar prices as the large national stores. They also have fewer overheads therefore they can compete and, in most cases, can offer lower prices on their key stock models.
With the rise of online shopping, it’s even more important to support your local shop in fear of them disappearing from our high streets. The majority of their customers enjoy coming into the showroom to see and feel the appliances and get the added bonus of professional advice from their trained staff.
Beacon offers the ‘full package’ when it comes to making an important purchase. They are competitive on prices, and offer advice to ensure you are making the right choice; they can deliver for free to the local area and they also offer installation services.
Whether you are popping in for a browse or on the search for a large kitchen appliance, Beacon Electrical can assure you will be well looked after and leave happy with your new appliance.
