Business Profile: The Perfect Sleep

We hear it all the time, the correct mattress is the key to a good night’s sleep but most of us are willing to spend more on a holiday abroad for two weeks than a mattress we sleep on every single night of our lives. Purchasing a bed is one of the most important things we’ll ever do as it’s not just a bed, it’s an investment in your sleep.

Bed specialists, The Perfect Sleep, are committed to ensuring every customer has the perfect nights sleep…

On average we spend a third of our lives in bed, but do we fully consider how much the perfect sleep means to us? Mark Burrage, store manager at The Perfect Sleep talks to us about how the company has grown, what they have to offer and the most important things to consider when purchasing a new bed.

The Perfect Sleep formerly known as “The Big Sleep Ltd” established in 1995 on Exeter St, Plymouth and have been providing the finest selection of beds, mattresses, and pillows ever since. Situated in the heart of Plymouth City Centre, The Perfect Sleep offer a vast selection from some of the biggest names in the bedding industry. The store has managed to collate one of the best ranges available for everyone to view and try out first hand.

The Perfect Sleep was started by company director Clive Dare, whose passion for furniture as a hobby progressed to become one of the most the successful bed specialists in Plymouth today, supplying an amazing service to customers across the Southwest.

Four main principles have led The Perfect Sleep to their success: expert advice, quality, value for money and above all friendly customer service. These standards have allowed them to continue to grow, improve and provide each customer with exceptional products.

The company re-branded 3 years ago from The Big Sleep to The Perfect Sleep. The re-brand has allowed Mark and his colleagues to help people recognise that The Perfect Sleep are bed specialists rather than just a bed store.

“Customers can come in and get our expert advice and we genuinely care about each and every customer we meet. There is never any pressure to buy from us.”

Mark is the store manager at The Perfect Sleep, since joining the company as a sales consultant six years ago he has worked his way up now running the store alongside Brian and Emma his sales consultants. Mark and his team ensure every customer is looked after, taking pride in offering a selection of quality beds, they are there to listen to each customer’s needs and find the best-suited bed for them.

“I do genuinely care, that’s the thing for me” said Mark. “That’s what I found with Brian and Emma, they also care and that’s what has helped make the store what it is today.”

The beauty of The Perfect Sleep is that there really is no pressure, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing allowing you to walk around without feeling anxious about making a purchase.

The team offer informative knowledge and without doubt excellent value for money. Every detail is considered so that you make the right choice for your perfect sleep; from your health and well-being, posture support, spinal pressure relief, injury or if you just want pure luxury from your bed, there is something for everybody in the showroom. Your bed is not just an expense but an investment in a life-changing experience.

One of the first things the team establish when a customer comes in to buy a mattress is whether they prefer soft, medium or firm: once this has been established they can then try out the various brands displayed in the showroom.

It’s not just as simple as choosing the firmness of the mattress. You need to consider your build and any injuries you may have that could have an impact on your sleep – after all, you want the perfect night’s sleep.

“The Perfect Sleep display a huge variety of British brands such as Hypnos, Vispring, Harrison Spinks, Mammoth, Mlily, Highgrove Beds and Highgate Beds. Each brand has a unique selling point and a wide range of choice available.

Mark ensures that the relationship between The Perfect Sleep and their suppliers remains strong.

One thing that puts The Perfect Sleep above other bed suppliers in the Southwest is that customer care is at the heart of everything they do.

“If you’ve got a wooden bed frame with a one year guarantee. I don’t want them to think after that year, that’s it. They can come back to me in three or four years if they have a broken slat or they need a replacement side rail, we’re here for that. After care is something I’m very passionate about.

Mark will help every customer out in any way he can even if their guarantee has run out; stretching as far as going to their house to fix their bed for them if needs be or opening the store an hour early so that a customer can try out a bed.We all underestimate how important is it to take your time with a bed and that’s why Mark and his team will do everything they can to ensure you make the right decision and take your time, even if that means going back to the showroom a few times to try out each mattress.

When asked what his secret is to the perfect night’s sleep we were surprised at Mark’s response. He told us it’s not only investing in a suitable mattress that makes a big difference to how you sleep but the combination of both a good mattress and a good pillow.

“You don’t want a pillow that is wider from your neck to the edge of your shoulder. If your head is raised during your sleep, it’s going to cause you a neck ache if your back is not aligned from your cervical to your sacrum. So you need to find a pillow that comes in level with your spine.”

The Perfect Sleep not only offer an extensive range of beds, mattresses, and pillows but also offer a range of bedroom furniture so that your bedroom can match.

“As a bed specialist, our core of business is mattresses but if somebody wants a matching bedside table to their bed frame, we can do that as well.”

It is clear that The Perfect Sleep have a passion for customer service and they have certainly done their research into how the body works to understand the best type of mattress for each person, whether you have a severe health condition or suffer from back pain.

The expansive knowledge Mark and his team have allows each customer to go away and have the perfect night’s sleep knowing their best interests have been considered throughout the entire journey.

Mark prides himself on allowing every customer to take as much time as they need, this is one of the key aspects that bring customers into The Perfect Sleep. Unlike other bed retailers where you feel pressured as soon as you open the door, Mark ensures customers know that someone is there to help without the pressure of purchasing there and then. The service is completely personalised and time is no worry.
