Another beneficial scheme that can help first-time buyers get onto the property ladder is the Shared Ownership scheme. Also known as ‘part buy part rent’, this is a type of transaction that offers prospective homeowners the opportunity to purchase a share in a newly built home. The share you will own is usually between 25% and 75% and it is this part that you pay towards a mortgage, the remaining amount is paid as rent to a housing association. This is a great scheme for people who may not have a large deposit to go towards a full mortgage and it also provides the opportunity for your credit rating to improve over time as it shows that you can afford to pay a full mortgage when the time is right for you to move on. Because of this, it makes it a more beneficial alternative to renting.
