Marjon Sport and Health centre, situated near Derriford Hospital, is fully open to the public, the university’s state-of-the-art sports centre is fast becoming the health hub of choice for fitness enthusiasts across Plymouth and beyond.

Marjon easily competes with other fitness and health centres in the city, with its 25m pool, state-of-the-art gym equipment and competitive membership options for all.
The centre, boasts sports halls and gymnasiums which can be booked for various activities, as well as outdoor pitches, sports therapy, personal training, and access to our online fitness classes.
The Sports Centre is not only popular with students and the public – professionals have also taken a shine to the facilities. Plymouth Patriots and Plymouth Argyle use the sports centre for training and therapy.
The future is bright for Marjon!
There is a lot of positive change at Marjon, and we are excited about the future. In September 2022 we will be launching our new membership structure which will better serve our students and local community. We are also in the middle of planning several facility improvement projects which will benefit everyone. The Centre is also going to be completely redecorated in 2022 and will be introducing new programs for children and the local community with a range of activity programs suitable for a wide audience.
Swimming at Marjon
There is no better way of improving your health and fitness or having fun with the family than swimming. With this in mind, Marjon Sports Centre has ensured the pool is accessible for all including those with disabilities as they believe nobody should be excluded from the joy of swimming. Children are always welcome to use the Marjon Sport & Health swimming pool with children under 8 requiring an adult to be in the pool supervising them.
The swimming pool is one of the key features at the centre, stemming 25m in length with a maximum depth of 1.8m at the deep end. The pool is always set up with a training lane for those who are keen to train without being disturbed. The shallow end of the pool sits at 0.9m in depth to make it child and family-friendly and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to assist anyone who needs support and advice.

The gym at Marjon is full of top-of-the-range equipment from leading brands. Their Synergy functional fitness rig creates an excellent fitness space, and the free weights area is situated in the centre of the gym, making it open and accessible to all.
This gym is also home to the only Life Fitness Power Mills in Plymouth at the moment. These high-tech step machines are popular in the US, and they have a screen which displays various hikes and walks around the world, allowing the user to explore scenery of their choice as they take each step.
It’s easy to forget that the centre is part of a university, with the diverse range of people using the facilities at Marjon. You can be confident knowing that if help is needed, professional and friendly staff will be in hand to help you in any way they can. The on-site café is a great place to wind down after a session in the centre, with hot food and light snacks are available if you’ve worked up an appetite!
Become a member
The membership plans at Marjon Sports Centre are competitive and flexible, with various options to choose from, although you can also pay-as-you-go to use the gym and pool if you’d like to give it a try before becoming a member.
Their most popular membership option is just £31 per month or £310 for the year, and covers unlimited use of the pool and the gym with induction and a personal programme included.
There is no joining fee, no contract, no commitment and nothing to cancel.
It allows new members an opportunity to try out the facilities and kick start their new year fitness goals without signing up to a rolling agreement.
These memberships include a parking permit which allows members to park right outside the building for a set amount of time.
The centre is easy to find – from the Derriford Roundabout take the exit towards the hospital, then take the first left at the traffic lights. Continue down this road to the mini roundabout and the large Marjon Sports Centre building and car park is immediately on the right.
